Description
Elder abuse encompasses a range of harmful behaviors towards older adults, including physical, emotional, or sexual harm, financial exploitation, and neglect by individuals responsible for their care. In the United States, authorities receive over half a million reports of elder abuse annually, yet many cases go unreported. Within agencies, it is imperative to assess each client individually to identify their vulnerability to abuse, neglect, or exploitation. All personnel providing in-home services must adhere to a mandate to report any instances of abuse, neglect, or exploitation, including suspected cases, involving vulnerable or 'at-risk' adults and children. Failure to report or any involvement in such actions is deemed unacceptable conduct and may result in disciplinary measures, including termination of license. This session will provide comprehensive guidance on the responsibilities of agencies in reporting, the appropriate authorities to report to, and the correct procedures to follow when faced with knowledge of elder abuse or neglect of a vulnerable adult.
